Outpatient Procedures
Cervical cancer screening & Colposcopy: This is a detailed examination of the cervix to investigate an abnormal Cervical Screening Test (Pap Smear). It is performed as an outpatient procedure and takes 15 to 20 minutes. A biopsy of the cervix maybe preformed in order to rule out cancers of the cervix.
Intrauterine devices Insertion: Intrauterine devices like the Copper IUD or the Mirena can be inserted with simple oral analgesia in the rooms. Rarely, general anaesthesia in theatre maybe required for insertion.
Vulval biopsies & Vulvoscopy: Similar to a Colposcopy, Vulvoscopy and Biopsies can be performed at the consulting rooms and will take approximately 15 to 20 min. These tests are important to detect precancerous and cancerous lesions of the vulva.
Endometrial biopsies: This is a procedure where the uterine lining is biopsied with an endometrial pipelle. It is used for investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding. It aids in the diagnosis of cancers and precancerous lesions of the uterine lining.
Consultation regarding Infertility: It may require investigation to determine sperm, difficulties with ovulation, blocked Fallopian tubes, abnormal uterine shape or other abnormalities.
Consultation on Contraception options include oral contraceptives, intrauterine devices, vaginal rings, diaphragms, implants, long term injections or laparoscopic tubal ligation.
Adolescent Gynaecology: Many gynaecological problems occur in the young adults that have long term psychological and social impact. They can be due to irregular periods or pelvic pain. These symptoms need investigations and a treatment plan.
Consultation regarding Menopause: It can be a troublesome period which may be brief or protracted. It will need in depth counselling and treatment with hormonal therapy.
In Patient Procedures
Hysteroscopy: This a procedure where the inside of your womb is examined and a biopsy taken to determine the cause of abnormal bleeding. This is performed in operating theatres.
Endometrial Ablation: This procedure has excellent result for women suffering from heavy periods. It is a safe and simple procedure, performed in theatres.
Urinary incontinence: It is usually because of a weak bladder sphincter or an overactive bladder or both. An assessment and management plan for treatment of urge and stress urinary incontinence, involving multidisciplinary input will ensure the best results for the patient.
Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery: Endometriosis can be a cause of painful periods, painful intercourse, abnormal bleeding and infertility. Both medical and surgical treatment via laparoscopy may be required for the treatment. Similarly ovarian cysts, and removal of adhesions or scar tissue are performed via laparoscopy.
Pelvic Floor Reconstruction Surgery: Prolapse of the uterus or vagina is not uncommon especially for women who have had multiple vaginal deliveries, big babies or instrumental deliveries. After a full clinical assessment, it may require further intervention such as physiotherapy, a vaginal pessary or surgical correction.
